Major changes to COVID-19 quarantine obligations
From tonight Thursday 18 November, self-quarantine requirements for COVID-19 cases and close contacts will be significantly eased.
Under the new settings:
- Positive cases will now have to isolate for 10 days instead of 14
- There will no longer be contact tracing related to positive cases and exposure sites will not be published
- Household close contacts will have to isolate for seven days if fully vaccinated and 14 days if not vaccinated
- Non-household close contacts will only have to isolate until they get a negative test result
- Cases will have to notify their workplace, school or childcare about a positive result
The government said the new requirements are based on modelling from the Burnet Institute and international experience.
