Power Line Safety Upgrade

Because electrical infrastructure has been a major cause of bush fires
in the past, more than 30 000km of high voltage power lines are being
protected under a scheme to reduce future risk. The upgrades include the
installation of safety switches that shut off power when lines contact
vegetation. Nineteen of these devices prevented 33 potentially
catastrophic fires in the 2019-20 season. Upgrades to the Moe
sub-station, and the supply to Erica, Rawson and Walhalla, are part of
the $750 million program.

The planned interruption to electrical supply in Rawson and Walhalla on
Tuesday 1 February will improve the reliability and safety of local supply.
